Over the past week, I've developed a calculator for several Basketball Advanced Statistics. I did this after growing frustrated with having to calculate them by hand for preseason games. During the regular season, http://www.basketball-reference.com/ and http://www.hoopdata.com/ do a wonderful job of providing these statistics on a per-game and season basis.
Still, having this calculator means that as long as you have the raw data, you can calculate advanced statistics for whatever you want. Perhaps you want to know Brian Cook's eFG% when playing the Bobcats. Why you would want that information, nobody knows, and you probably need to seek medical attention, but the fact is that you can.
The Calculator is still a work in progress, as I still have several major statistics I need to add to it. It might take a while, but I'll get them up eventually.
Here are the Statistics I currently have up, and what they mean if you're not familiar with Advanced Statistics. I like them, because a lot of the time they provide more useful information than just a standard box score.
Effective Field Goal % - This adjusts for the fact that a 3-pointer is one more point than a 2-pointer.
True Shooting % - This is a measure of shooting efficiency taking into account 3P%, FG%, and FT%.
Offensive Rebound % - This is an estimate of the percentage of availabe offensive rebounds a player grabbed when he was on the floor.
Defensive Rebound % - This is an estimate of the percentage of available defensive rebounds a player grabbed when he was on the floor.
Total Rebound % - This is an estimate of the percentage of available rebounds a player grabbed when he was on the floor.
Assist % - This is an estimate of how many teammate field goals a player assisted on while he was on the floor.
Turnover % - This is an estimate of turnovers per 100 possesions.
Block % - This is an estimate of the percentage of opponent 2-pointers a player blocked while on the floor. 3-pointers aren't accounted for as they are rarely blocked.
Steal % - This is an estimate of the percentage of opponent possessions that end in a steal by the player while he was on the floor.
Usage % - This is an estimate of the percentage of team plays a player used while he was on the floor. A player uses a possession when he shoots, gets to the line, or turns it over.
Team Possessions - This estimates the number of possessions that took place during a game.
Pace - This is an estimate of the the number of possessions per 48 minutes by a team.
Team Offensive Rating - This is an estimate of points scored per 100 possessions. Higher is better.
Team Defensive Rating - This is an estimate of points allowed per 100 possessions. Lower is better.
Enjoy.
