International Players to Keep an Eye on in World Championships: Part II

The World Championships kick off tomorrow, and I for one cannot wait to watch some high quality basketball again.  I'm also here to help you keep an eye on International players that you may not know much about, but could one day see in the NBA, or perhaps even this season.

Part 1 is here, and Part 2 is after the jump.

1. Omer Asik, C, Turkey

Asik was drafted by the Trailblazers in 2008 and had his rights traded to Chicago on draft night.  This summer, Chicago signed Asik to a deal so we'll get to see him in the NBA this year.  Asik is sort of similar to another Bulls Center, Joakim Noah, in that he has an excellent motor, and is a good rebounder and shotblocker.  He could end up being the ideal backup for that Bulls team.  We'll see how he does in the tournament, especially if Turkey ever has to play Spain and Marc Gasol.

2. Semih Erden, C, Turkey

Another center from Turkey, Erden was drafted by the Celtics in the 2nd round of the 2008 NBA draft, and finally signed with them this year, also playing on their Summer League team.  Erden is a bit more raw than Asik, but also displays more potential in his offensive repertoire, while not being as skilled defensively.  With Perkins out much of the season and both O'Neal's getting up there in age, Erden could see some time for the Celtics early on in the season.

3. Victor Claver, F, Spain

Claver was drafted with the 22nd pick by Portland last year, a little surprising, as he made it very clear he was staying in Europe and was hoping for a 2nd round selection to avoid the rookie scale when he did come over.  As it stands, he'll have to wait a while (3 years I believe) to avoid the rookie scale.  Still Claver is an electrifying prospect, as he's very athletic.  He shoots a little too much for his own good, but he can be a real threat in transition.

4. Sergio Llull, G, Spain

Llull was drafted in the 2nd round last year by Houston, although he stayed in Europe.  He is a very safe point guard, making very few mistakes with the ball, much like fellow Spaniard Jose Calderon.  Also like Calderon, he's deadly from long range.  He could end up being a very reliable backup point guard for the Rockets in a year or two if he comes over.

I hope you guys enjoy the World Championships.  I'll be rooting for USA and Greece.
